Woodscape creates a suite of public furniture designs for prestigious Olympic Park development project.

The London Legacy Development Corporation used the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games to develop the huge new public space in East London, in what was once a very deprived area.
The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park project changed one of the most challenged areas in the UK into a world-class, sustainable and thriving neighbourhood.
The new park is now the largest new urban park in the capital since the Victorian era and has created a dynamic heart for East London. It is now considered a catalyst for the area’s regeneration.
Innovative street furniture was required for the post-games transformation of the area into permanent parkland. The requirements were for the public furniture to be of the highest quality with a clear purpose – and the aim was to contribute to the creation of uncluttered spaces, providing easy movement of people through the space.
Woodscape designed and manufactured a suite of bespoke timber street furniture for the project, in accordance with the LLDC inclusive design standards, including slatted picnic tables, special curved seats with backrests and lounger style chaise longue seating in a range of sizes to suit the scheme.
In July 2013, The North Park opened as the the first phase of the development, marking the anniversary of the Games’ opening ceremony. The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was fully opened in 2014.
The park been transformed with new community centres, cafés and gardens for all to enjoy. It has also become a thriving business zone and a must-see destination where people choose to visit, live, work and play – and return time and time again.
