Woodscape’s unique Pebble Seat design enhances the landscaping scheme of a prestigious South Bank residential project.

Woodscape were commissioned to produce large pebble-shaped seats, manufactured out of Naturally Very Durable Hardwood for the Riverlight residential scheme developed by St. James – a company based in London who are part of the Berkley Group. The company has established a reputation as a design-conscious developer by regenerating brownfield sites and transforming them into desirable places to live with a positive impact on the environment.
Working in partnership with Landscape Architects – Gillespies and Contractors – Elite Landscapes, the Pebble Seat was created by Woodscape to enhance the landscaped environment of this exciting and impressive new residential development, situated directly overlooking the river in the heart of Nine Elms on the South Bank. It is now enjoyed by the residents as part of the impressive landscaping scheme of London’s largest and most exciting regeneration area – with some apartments now commanding well over £1M.
The unique and contemporary bespoke hardwood Pebble Seat showcases a natural and organic design, with CNC machined profiles producing a smooth pebble-like shape. The design was created to satisfy the client’s conceptual brief which was influenced by the large seat’s eventual waterside position. The natural hardwood of its construction creates a strong contrast against the hard landscaping and construction materials of the Riverlight building itself.
The seat’s construction comprises of various sections of different sized timbers and a stainless steel sub-frame. The precision-engineered piece of street furniture demonstrates Woodscape’s highly creative and advanced technical capabilities.
Woodscape are delighted to have been involved with the Riverlight project – an iconic and influential scheme, which is part of the important redevelopment of the cultural South Bank of the Thames. The organic form of the Pebble Seats, as well as Woodscape’s Clifton benches also used in the scheme, will be enjoyed for decades to come by the residents as they relax in the grounds of their riverside homes and enjoy the stunning river views.
