As part of a borough-wide environmental improvement scheme known as the Gateways Project, Enfield Council developed a landscape design for both the local park Waltham Gardens and Turkey Street train station forecourt in Enfield, North East London.
The proposal incorporated several key features, including improved footways, lighting and landscaping to create better access routes and offer improved safety for pedestrians.
Drawing upon previous experience of carrying out works of a similar nature, Woodscape were commissioned to design, supply and deliver various hardwood elements for the redeveloped space. These included bollards, a number of benches, informal play features and a timber retaining wall.
As part of a collaborative community initiative, the Council invited local children to draw and write specific memories, feelings and any associations they had with with Turkey Street Station.

A number of the children’s images were then chosen to be included into the design of the new scheme with routing and paintings applied to the hardwood timber cube seats and bollards. The final designs were manufactured by Woodscape and installed outside the train station entrance.
The bespoke street furniture supplied by Woodscape included hardwood curved and straight slatted seating, a retaining wall with curved Type 4 cantilevered seats, cube bollards and stepping logs. All products supplied to the scheme were FSC Certified and made from Naturally Very Durable Hardwood.
