Description

All our hardwood bollards are available in round or square, each with a choice of 8 top profiles, and a range of widths and heights. They can be customised with grooves with optional infills.

Supplied fitted with any of 4 circular and 4 rectangular designs, which allow a choice of not just visual aesthetic, but of strength and direction of light.

We support Dark-Sky initiatives, supplying units in 3000K temperature as standard, and offer low lumen outputs and directional light designs. 4000K temperature light units available should your scheme require a neutral light.

Illuminated units are available on a selection of specifications as determined by the size of the light units, and all units are ready to wire in and require no additional components/drivers.

Lights are installed at a fixed height of 0.5m above ground (measured to centrepoint of the unit). Some smaller bollard heights, or specifications with a large top profile design may require a lower unit placement and reduce light distribution, but we restrict the units to 400mm minimum centrepoint height. Available combinations with centre heights can be seen on the included chart.

Woodscape use only BEGA light units in our bollards, as their build quality aligns with the standards we expect from all our components.

BEGA’s 3 year unit warranty and 20 year parts availability guarantee ensures light units with a longevity suitable to the lifespan of our naturally very durable hardwood bollards.

Step 1 : Choose a Bollard Style

You’ve already done this by choosing to view our ILLUMINATED Hardwood Timber Bollards.

Illuminated Hardwood Timber Bollards utilise BEGA aluminium light units, available in 4 round and 4 rectangular styles, with varying watts/lumens output to allow a selection suitable to your needs.

Our complete Bollards range includes Fixed BollardsIlluminated Bollards, Removable Bollards, Hinge-down Bollards or Cycle Parking Bollards plus we have our Post & Rail options.

Step 2 : Choose a Bollard Shape

With a choice of Round or Square finishing, consider your usage of the bollard for what is most suitable for your area, and any existing street furniture or design elements.

Please note that choosing Round bollards at certain sizes (see datasheet for full details) restricts your selection of light units due to the size of recess required to accommodate them.

Step 3 : Choose a Top Profile

Woodscape timber bollards are the best way for you to #designthenation as they are so customisable, with an extensive selection of top profiles, from the simple & practical to the beautifully ornate.

Square & Round Bollards differ in the Top Profiles available (the selections at the top of this page will alter according to your choice of shape).

Step 4 : Add an optional Groove.

Our hardwood timber bollards are available either smooth or with a decorative groove.

Options are an 18mm ‘C’ groove for round bollards, an 18mm ‘V’ groove for square bollards, or available on both is a 25mm Flat groove (choose the Flat groove if you would like a painted or reflective band added). 50mm and 100mm Flat grooves are available, but are not advised as on many bollard sizes they will adversely affect the height and therefore effectiveness of the lighting unit.

25mm F Groove

Step 5 : Choose a Light Unit

Units have a Graphite finish as standard, also available in Silver finish. All lights are provided at 3000K warm light temperature to comply with Dark Sky requirements, but are also available in 4000K neutral light temperature.

Please confirm the watts/lumens of your chosen unit are suitable for your needs – we have chosen a range that span from very low light to large area illumination.

Circular Light Units

LU-24101 : Louvred, 2.5W : Low Lumens
LU-24151 : Sheilded, 4.9W
LU-24011 : White Glass, 4.9W
LU-24110 : Distributed, 7.0W : High Lumens

Rectangular Light Units

LU-33108 : Directional, 2.6W
LU-33096 : White Glass, Narrow, 3.9W
LU-33109 : White Glass, Small, 5.1W
LU-33165 : White Glass, Large, 7.8W : High Lumens

Step 5 : Specify Unit Finish & LED Light Temperature

Light units are supplied in Graphite finish as standard, but Silver option also available (note, this is not a reflective or stainless steel like finish).

Specify a 3000K light temperature for a warm, dark-sky friendly (depending on lumens) cast light, or 4000K if you need a more neutral colour.

Step 6 : Specify Width & Height

While you can choose the combination of width & height to suit your needs, below is our recommended below/above ground sizes for illuminated bollards.

Standard section sizes are 150mm (finished size of 140mm), 175mm (finished size of 165mm) and 200mm (finished size of 190mm).

We recommend that when installing 1/3 or the bollard is below ground, and we recommend heights of 900mm (600mm above ground), 1200mm (800mm above ground) or 1500mm (1000mm above ground).

All light units are installed with a centre point height of 500mm where possible, and no lower than 400mm (dependant upon the chosen top profile and groove choice), shown by the dotted outlines on the illustration below.

Larger section sizes and custom heights are available upon request, simply contact us with your requirements.

Maintenance

While Woodscape products can be used without a maintenance routine, some inspection and mainteance may prolong their life.

Timber components should be inspected every 6 months, more in exposed locations, and cleaned to prevent dirt or moss build up.

NVD Hardwood

The natural durability of timber is classified in five broad categories based on their performance in ground contact. Timbers in the Naturally Very Durable Hardwood category have a life expectancy, without preservative treatment, of more than 100 years in UK ground contact for section sizes of 200mm upwards. These timbers are usually very hard, extremely strong and have good fire and chemical resistance.

Dense Very Durable Hardwood in large sections seasons slowly over a number of years. During the acclimatisation process cracks/checks may appear, especially during periods of hot
dry weather. These are more noticeable early in the seasoning cycle, than after in-depth equalisation of moisture content has taken place.

The above characteristics of solid timber may cause a certain amount of concern until it is understood that they do not generally compromise the strength or durability of manufactured components. Unlike preservative treated softwoods, the durability of NVD Hardwood is throughout the full section and any moisture ingress would not normally result in internal decay.

All hardwoods exude tannin as part of the natural weathering process, when certain tannins (particularly Oak) come into contact with ferrous particles they can react and create a blue/black ink type stain. This is perfectly normal and can be removed with standard household detergents/bleach. For more stubborn stains an Oxalic Acid based product can be used.
