Choosing the right length
Components are available in the following standard lengths:
R600 – 600mm Oa length
R900 – 900mm Oa length
R1200 – 1200mm Oa length
R1500 – 1500mm Oa length
R1800 – 1800mm Oa length
R2100 – 2100mm Oa length
R2400 – 2400mm Oa length
Other lengths may be available upon request. Normally 1/3 to 1/2* of the length would be below ground level.
* Special re-inforced concrete foundations may be employed which considerably reduce the length of the component below ground level.
Design detail
Woodscape Retaining Wall components are made to our own copyright design.
Each component is linked together by means of a loose tongue which is designed to be a push fit. The groove which takes the loose tongue stops 150mm from the top of each component, which allows stepping of up to 140mm without revealing the secret joint.
Installation
Allow between 1/3 and 1/2* of the component length below ground level.
A continuous trench may be dug out by hand or by machine to the required depth. Foundation details will vary according to soil type, the height to be retained and the loading anticipated and will often include fixing in concrete.
Some components are marked with a B at the base end in black indelible ink. This should be placed downwards with the B to the back side. (The top of the component is the end adjacent to the stopped grooves.)
1 in 10 components of each type are branded with ‘Woodscape’ on the top front and these should be spaced at random along the retaining wall.
Each component should be placed in-situ and a loose tongue of the appropriate length (250mm shorter than the component) pushed into the groove. A further component is then butted up tightly to the previous one.
Check components are upright and all tops correctly aligned before backfilling the trench with concrete or other suitable material.
All components have been given a pre-installation coating of Sadolin Industrial 94 Mais. Further applications of this or a similar pigmented stain may be made following installation. However, if left in the natural state, the long life expectancy of Naturally Very Durable Hardwood is not significantly impaired.
