Whitfield Gardens, located on the busy Tottenham Court Road, has long been home to the Fitzrovia Mural, depicting life in the 1980s. The mural recently underwent a restoration by Global Street Art Agency, alongside a complete refurbishment of the area by Camden Council, who tasked LDA Design with the scheme as part of their West End project.
The West End project aims drastically improve public open space through the creation and reinvention of garden spaces, with Woodscape as the ideal choice for the expansive and custom street furniture such spaces demand.
The bespoke hardwood furniture, with concealed lighting by Michael Grubb Studio, brings the area a rich glow and sense that the space is warm and inviting, both for the people living and working nearby and visitors to the area. Also, the timing really couldn’t be better, with the increased demand for open public spaces following the many lockdowns of recent times. Indeed, the passers by have already made great use of the seating, with it providing a much needed resting stop in their busy lives.
With much of the furniture being movable, the space is flexible for all manner of future events, to further encourage the community to cherish the beauty of outdoor living, even in the bustling centre of London. With the West End Project also to transform Princes Circus and Alfred Place, there’s a lot of inspiring urban redevelopment to look forward to.
